We have an exchange student staying with us from Guadeloupe. She is trying to call home and we cannot get the numbers to work. Any suggestions on placing calls to this area? or where we can find answers?

You have to dial the international access code … 011
Followed by the country code for Mexico … 52
Followed by the 2-3 digit long distance code for the city
Followed by the 7-8 digit local phone number
If you’re calling a mobile number in Mexico, you have to include a 1 after the 52.
Or, you can call the operator and have them dial it for you. But, they charge for this.

I have a Verizon cell phone and I’ve been in Belize for a few days and I’m trying to call my family in the US, but everytime I dial 1-three digit area code- and my phone number, it says this number is invalid. I thought the country code for the US was one? On the cell phone it says roaming and I know it’s going to be $ 1.79 a minute, but I just wanted to quickly call and see how everyone is doing.

You need to make sure that you have world wide on your phone, not just international dialing. Also, the full country code is 01. You may need to check with Verizon to make sure that your phone is set up correctly for world wide dialing.
Here is the difference: Internation dialing allows you to call from the US to other countries.
World Wide dialing allows your to call US from other countries.
