Bogota is a great & lively city. With close to 9,000,000 it should be! Always much to do. Heavy in tourist so the prices reflect it. Colombia is not expensive, but Bogota they’re looking for the gringo dollar. If you visit Bogota, try to avoid taxi’s. Use the TransMilenio or in other words…public transportation. The draw back weather wise it is always cool….and now very wet!
Santa Marta though much, much smaller than Bogota is a Colombian gem! The weather is much warmer. Maybe averages 80-95 degrees. That’s the one thing about Colombia that’s always constant…the temperatures. Any region of the country only varies on a daily average 10-12 degree’s year round. If you’re high it’s cooler and down in the valleys or plains warmer.
There’s NOTHING I don’t like about Santa Marta! Everything from the landscape to the architecture to the culture & foods! If you like the “coastal” atmosphere then three days only should be spent right here.
The “Coffee Triangle” is neck & neck with Santa Marta. This is where I begin every trip into Colombia. It has it’s own flavor and ambiance like no place else in Colombia. Everything about this zone tickles my every senses! We keep a second home here as my wife was born & raised here, so really I get the best tour guide going!
Where ever you choose, I wish you GREAT Travels!
