Question by IrishDude !: Romantic Roatán getaway, what to do?
My wife is planning a trip to Roatán (Honduras’ Bay Island) next month for us, I would love to surprise her with a special excursion while we’re there. Does anyone have any suggestions from experience, my wife is a massage therapist so I’m ruling out spas or massages..

Thanks!

I’m not sure of specific romantic excursions, since Roatan is automatically romantic, as many other islands in that area, but there is a plethora of things to do. Ocean kayaking is popular, as is scuba diving. If you’re not sure about scuba diving, you can always get inexpensive lessons all over the island.

There are also some Garifuna communities on the Bay Islands, so that’s a great way to delve into some of the culture.

There is some Horseback Riding available too, particularly at the West End.

Also, if you’re able to travel to the mainland beaches, I recommend La Ceiba and Tela.
La Ceiba is larger and offers some great nightlife. Tela is generally calmer, but just as interesting.
La Ceiba also has access to several other ecotourism wonders, from Pico Bonito to Cuero y Salado, Rio Cangrejal, etc.

One thing you’ll find about Honduras is that it’s generally calmer than the more known Central American countries, like Belize, Costa Rica, and Panama. Right now is a good time to go before it becomes a major hotspot.

If you stay on the Bay Islands alone, I’m sure that you’ll have a blast. If you also travel a little bit to La Ceiba’s area, you’ll have access to even more adventures.

Hope this helps, and have fun! icon smile Romantic Roatán getaway, what to do?
